Wasp nests recipe

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients needed for making dough, ground sponge biscuits, icing sugar, softened butter, rum and Dutch cocoa. Leave the dough to rest in the fridge for at least 2 hours, but preferably overnight.

In a bowl, whisk the sugar with butter and eggnoc. We also prepared the wasp nest filling in advance, so it is not as runny and the nests are easier to fill.

We will prepare the forms for wasp nest making. We can choose between a tilting form or the opening one that we use in this recipe. There are many types, shapes and sizes. The shops offer not only classic nests, but also tree, snowman or animal shapes. Everyone can choose the form he likes the most. We will need a tip to create the holes

It is easier to work with a cold dough. It holds better together and the finished nests are better removed from the forms. If the dough is warm and too soft, the wasp nests may tear when the form is opened.

Sprinkle the form before making every wasp nest with either cocoa or powdered sugar. Take a small piece of dough and squeeze it into the form until it is almost full.

Fill the form with dough

In the middle, create a hole for filling. Keep the form firmly closed all the time so that the dough fits nicely inside and does not tear when opening.

Make a hole for the filling

Prepare the filling into the confectionery bag. If you do not have one at home, you can also use an ordinary, stronger plastic bag with a cut tip.

 Fill the nest

If, like us, you do not own a nest stand, you can fill them straight in the form.

Put a sponge biscuit on top of the filled wasp nest

Put a sponge biscuit on top. That will serve us as a base.

Carefully take the finished nests out of the form

Finally, carefully remove the wasp nests from the form. It is possible that some of our cookies will not work out and will be a little cracked, but it certainly will not take away their taste.

We store the wasp nests in cold. Leave them to rest for a few days before eating, the filling is then beautifully combined with the dough.
