- stapler
Instructions
Let’s start with paper. It depends on how much time we have to make the heart garland. Either we produce original hand-painted papers, or we can use commonly available color papers from the art supplies shop.
We chose hand-painted decor. The finished Valentine’s Day decoration has beautiful vibrant colors.
Painting the papers
The paper is decorated on both sides. We draw diagonal stripes on both sides of the paper. We use saturated shades of red and pink, we can also add some orange. In some places let a little white show through. The pattern is painted first from one side and, after drying, from the other side. Let the finished paper sheets dry. If they wobble a little, we weight them down overnight.
Measuring the paper sheets
We measure the individual sheets of paper. The A4 format is 210 x 297 mm. Measure the longer side into 30 mm wide strips. This gives 9 strips of 30 x 210 mm from each sheet of paper.
We have 30 mm wide strips cut. We’ll fold them in half. From the free (unconnected) edge we measure 20 and 60 mm, here we mark the places where we will punch through the holes necessary for putting individual hearts.
The holes don’t have to be right in the middle. If you have a smaller hole punch, like us, the holes will be closer to one of the edges. Then, when threading, make sure that in the finished garland the individual hearts are turned in the same direction. String them evenly so that some of them do not protrude from the line. If you have a larger hole punch, you make the holes in the middle and do not have to watch for anything when threading.
Of course you can argue that we could make the strips narrower so that the holes are always in the middle. However, we liked this size and we are sure that the hearts will be solid even when using less weight paper.
Make individual hearts
We’ll prepare a stapler. Create a heart shape from the strip.
Bend the free ends inwards, straighten the edges so that they fit together and sew them together.
Everyone chooses the number of heart according to the length of the garland.
Thread the hearts
String all the hearts on the string and we are done. The heart garland is complete.
This valentine decoration with its bright colours brightens up every place we put it in.
